Founded in 1834 by Johann Guggenbühler as ""Brauerei zum Löwengarten"", Eichhof (a name taken in 1960) was once the 3rd biggest in the country and the biggest to be independant. This is now over. After having bought and closed the brewery Ziegelhof (25'000 hl, Liestal) in 2006, they have been taken over by the green giant Heineken in April 2008. The production was then 361'000 hl. It is nowadays very hard to say where it stays, as the production remains undisclosed. Since the middle of 2013 the production is bottled in Chur (Calanda, the main production plant of Heineken).
Eichhof is also importing foreign beers, like Beck's, Grolsch, Pilsner Urquell or Löwenbräu.
Offers mainly mainstream, cheap quality and boring lagers."

The second biggest independent brewery in the country. The company Lupo - founded back in 1918 as a producer and distributor of cider - started to brew beers in 1963. Producing all possible types of mainstream pale lagers and special beers on customers demand. They are brewing for the supermarket Denner and for Landi (130'000 hl of Farmer beers). Have a own brand called Römer Edelhell.
Firstly taken over by Granador, Lupo will then lose its name when its owner merged with Pomdor to create Unidrink in 2005. Later (April 2008) the company - which produces and distributes drinks like Ramseier, Granador, Sinalco, Elmer and Pepsi - changed its name to Ramseier. What is really strange about this company, is the fact they do not make any direct advertising on their brews. Of course, with that many soft drinks, beer is almost a side job to them, but one could think they are embarassed about the fact they are brewing beers ... Has a high-end can bottling machine since 2014 which allow them to produce the Farmer Bier from Landi in cans (they were before produced in Germany).
Don't expect to find mind-blowing beers here...
